Cicli Rossi Jerseys
Cicli Rossi
Italy is renowned for it's passionate cycling history with many long established cycle shops.
These local businesses, if not running their own cycle teams and providing them with jerseys, would also be selling jerseys in their shops, invariably utilising the jerseys as advertising for their business.
So it is possible this vintage Cycling Jersey, along with it's long sleeved brother, could be a treasure worn by one of the local clubs. Maybe they were bought by customers of the Rossi shops? Alternatively they could have been worn by teams sponsored by Rossi businesses.
The dilemma is that there are two Rossi businesses, unconnected, that ran bicycle shops in
Siena and Povolaro during that period. Research is ongoing as to which shop these jerseys are associated with.
In Siena, the Rossi brothers, Eugenio, Martino and Ranieri ran a workshop as well as a shop selling bicycles from 1935 up until 1970 with Bianchi played a large part in their business careers. In the 1970's The workshop was closed, but preserved by way of a small museum dedicated to the business. There is a link below to some great blogs from visitors to the museum which includes a short video around The Bottega Museo di Ranieri Rossi, Cicli f.lli Rossi
In Povolaro, Cicli Rossi there is a family run cycle business which was started in 1965 by Bruno Rossi. These shirts may have originated with the Rossi's of Povolara. Bruno's children, Gabriele, Anna and Walter continue to run the business in the 21st Century. Gabriele is the driving force who is a well respected mechanic, working for many top race teams. The business also currently runs a successful race team
